A beaming Jim Brown, Principal of Dodd Jr. High School looked on as the
top sixty six students in the class of eighth graders were
inducted into the National Junior High School Honor Society. Of the
approximately five hundred students in the eighth grade class, these sixty
six students maintained a ninety average or better all through seventh
grade, qualifying them to be inducted into the Honor Society.
Superintendent Josephine Moffett commended these students, saying that
they were role models for the other students. Deputy Mayor Renier
Frierson-Davis, representing the Mayor and the Board of Trustees of the
Village, congratulated the students on their scholarship and academic
excellence. The audience was filled with dignitaries in honor of the
students high achievement. Besides the Superintendent of Schools, the
District Clerk and assistant superintendent of personnel attended the
festivities. Board members Lisi and Muscara were there along with Julius
Pierce, one of Freeport's famous retired policeman. The guest speaker was
Mr. Julius Brown, an alumnus of Dodd Jr. High School and the assistant
principal of Uniondale High School. The Kiwanis Club sent representative
Juanita Dash to honor the achievement of the students.
Joe Scannell of
Rockville Centre, a former ADA of Nassau County and candidate for the
Nassau County Legislature, took time away from his busy schedule telling
this reporter that it was gratifying to see such a large and enthusiastic
turn out and the proud faces of the parents. by LILKER
