TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR NETWORK AND
INTERNET USE
1. No user will deliberately access educationally inappropriate
materials or show others how to do the same.
2. If a user inadvertently accesses unacceptable materials or an
unacceptable Internet site, the user shall immediately disclose the
inadvertent access to an appropriate school district employee.
3. No user shall disclose or share his or her password or allow
anyone else to use his/her account name and/or password.
4. No user will view, alter or damage another's stored files. School
officials may monitor students’ files.
5. No user will access any
network files, documents, applications, etc., without express permission
by an authorized staff member. School officials may monitor the use of
the district’s network.
6. Users will not use the school district’s technology to knowingly
or recklessly post false, defamatory, or private information about a
person or organization, or to harass another person or to engage in
personal attacks, including prejudicial or discriminatory attacks.
7. Users will not use the school district’s technology to post
personal or contact information about themselves.
8. Users will respect and uphold copyright laws.
9. The school district’s technology will not be used for personal
or commercial use.
10. Users will follow additional regulations posted in the room where
technology is in use.
11. No users will deliberately or willfully cause damage to
technology equipment or software or assist others in doing the same.
Although the Freeport School District uses a filtering system, no
filtering technology can guarantee that every user will be prevented from
accessing all inappropriate Internet locations. While every attempt is
made by District staff to monitor access, it is’ impossible to
simultaneously monitor multiple users.
The Freeport School district will not be responsible for:
• financial obligations arising from unauthorized use of the school
district system or the Internet; users are liable for any financial
obligations resulting from unauthorized use
• any consequences of service interruptions or changes to the
district’s network and stored files
• the consequences of any use inconsistent with this policy
Users should recognize that the Freeport School District’s Code of
Conduct applies to the use of the district’s network and technology
equipment. Failure to follow the rules will result in a student being
denied the opportunity to use the District’s technology, restricted
Internet use and/or disciplinary action, as appropriate. The student and
his (her) parents or guardians acknowledge that the District reserves the
right to monitor Internet use.
Permission to use the District’s technology is dependent upon a
student and his or her parent or guardian completing the district’s
Acceptable Use Policy. Signing and returning the form, shows that the
student understands and will follow the District’s technology rules.
